This is the first thing that I do when I have an idea and am unsure about its market potential. Here is what you should do.

Think about someone who is in the same market, or doing the same thing, and check the traction they're getting.

Let's say I have an idea about a product that targets founders in need of help, investment, advice, etc...

I would check the traction that Y Combinator is getting, since they are in the same market and targeting the same audience.

Then visit the website: similarweb.com

Type a website that you would like to know traction.

We can see that Y Combinator has a pretty high rank in their category. It's the 2,507th most visited site in the United States and the 3,989th most visited site in the world. They are massive, especially considering they are a venture firm. Let's see how much traffic they're getting.

As you can see, they had 18 million visits in September 2023. But maybe you want to know which countries are sending all those visitors. Well, you can check that as well.

With this data, I can see that there's potential for a product in this market. Those 18 million people coming to their site per month indicate a healthy market.
