🪄 Embrace and Transform

We all know that feeling that washes over us and leaves us completely unsure of what to do next.

And whatever your emotional vocabulary you are comfortable with is, I will use this umbrella term and call it a fear.

While a comprehensive list of all human problems would be a long list indeed, we can all agree that fear seems to be an epidemic in our society today.

Fear almost never comes alone, instead is often accompanied by anxiety, stress, avoidance, shame, you name it.

But fear is not something to be conquered or eliminated, it’s simply part of the human experience.

So perhaps nothing is more important than understanding how these emotions affect us and how to manage ourselves when we are in their grip.

Even more - to learn how to EMBRACE them and TRANSFORM them into our own power and insight.

Do not be a "Fear stops me from doing so many things” person.

🤡 Willy Wonka Tunnel

How many of you remember that famous scene from the 1971 movie 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory'? The scene starts out almost innocent but soon the tone shifts as the characters embark on a psychedelic journey through a tunnel, with nightmarish and abstract images projected around them. This disturbing scene is accompanied by unsettling music, creating a sense of both wonder and unease.

Does this remind you of feeling fear? For me, it is a perfect description. Fear starts somewhere in the back of our mind, somewhere at the bottom of our stomach, and at the end of our nerves. All of a sudden, it crushes you, leaving you paralyzed. And then? Then it gets you moving if you let it. Fear can be a suffocating weight, but it also holds the power to propel us forward.

The capacity to feel fear plays an important developmental role in the establishment of adaptive behaviours and responses to our environment.

This is because fear is a fundamental emotion that has evolved as a survival mechanism. Its primary purpose is to alert us to potential dangers and threats in our environment, enabling us to respond in ways that increase our chances of survival.

💡Most of the time fear is trying to say something to us, even though it might make us feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed. But every time, it brings a message and helps us understand our beliefs, needs, and how we're connected to the world around us and within us.

By examining our fear responses and identifying triggers for them, we cultivate self-awareness and develop a deeper understanding of the patterns we use. And most importantly we don’t give away our power to fear.

Fear can have both positive and negative aspects, depending on how it is experienced, managed, and responded to.

🎩 Lincoln's Struggle

History calls him a self-made man. The self-made man with the absent-minded look of melancholy who changed history.

And the truth is that between a log cabin and the White House, Abraham Lincoln faced a lot throughout his life.

💡A self-made man term emphasizes his background as someone who rose from humble origins to achieve significant success through his own efforts and determination.

Although his childhood was marked by poverty, and he had limited formal education he was so determined to educate himself that he began studying law books on his own. Eventually, he received his law license and started practicing law and that was only the beginning of remarkable heights.

As the 16th President of the United States, he represents someone who overcame challenges to achieve greatness. His presidency was defined by the turbulent time of the Civil War and his enormous efforts to end slavery.

What is well-known about Lincoln is that he faced numerous personal losses, including the tragic death of his young son. And still amidst many defeats, he stood resolute in his remarkable resilience to find the strength to always push against fear and obstacles while wrestling privately with his moods.

Book Lincoln’s Melancholy

Many historians consider Abraham Lincoln to be one of the greatest Presidents in American history. It highlights his leadership during a crucial period and the lasting impact of his decisions on the nation's moral and political landscape.

Yet, beyond his leadership, Abraham Lincoln was known for his contemplative nature. He often engaged in deep introspection about life, his values, and his emotions. These reflections are often evident in his writings and speeches.

Lincoln's ability to transform his fears into a driving force for change shows how challenges can be transformed into opportunities for personal growth.

🤝 Fear as a Companion

Whenever the fear of the unknown arises it often holds us back from pursuing new opportunities and personal growth. By acknowledging your fear, you're taking the first step toward managing it.

Obviously, the real issue has nothing to do with the fear itself, but, rather, with how we hold the fear and to what fear is linked. And that has a lot to do with our past experiences and how much we trust ourselves.

💡Self-trust involves having confidence in your abilities, judgment, and capacity to navigate various situations. When you trust yourself, you believe that you can handle the challenges and uncertainties that come your way.

You have to keep feeding them to yourself until they become a part of your being—until you start to reverse your behaviour and move toward your desired goals, rather than retreating.

Pushing through fear is less frightening than living with the underlying fear that comes from a feeling of helplessness.

Susan Jeffers

The relationship between self-worth and handling fears is deeply intertwined, and it is crucial for our personal growth and development.

Being aware that fear is not an ultimate emotion we can move from a place of pain, paralysis, and depression (feelings that often accompany fear) to one of power, energy, and excitement.

💡As long as we continue to push out into the world, as long as we continue to stretch our capabilities, as long as we continue to take new risks in making our dreams come true, we are going to experience fear.

Next time you feel like fear is consuming you, try to approach it in a constructive manner:

  • Action Overcomes Fear: Taking action is a powerful way to move past fear.

  • Embrace Failure and Vulnerability: If you fear something, gaining experience in that area, even if it means facing failure, can help reduce the fear. We only fear what we don’t understand.

  • Motivation Matters: But while fear can inspire us to make an important change, it may not help us to sustain the change over time. It just gives us a good start.

And always keep in mind that you are not alone in your fear. You have the rest of the world to keep you company, as every time you confront a challenge, you're not the only one feeling afraid—others are too. Fear is the shared human experience.
