🤦 I Forgot About My Influence

👉 Being the boss means your words matter a lot to your team. It's easy to forget, but it's important not to push our ideas too much. As a CEO, sometimes the best thing to do is to stay quiet and let the team come up with their own ideas. It's all about listening and letting them shine.

💥 As the CEO, I Realized My Words Have a Big Impact

One morning, I prepared for a crucial brainstorming session.

The meeting room was filled with a positive energy. Everyone was eager to discuss our next big project.

But I had a realization, rooted in both experience and psychology: my position carried weight, and often, unintentionally, my voice could drown out others.

Research suggests that when someone in power, like a CEO, suggests an idea, it's likely that others will agree or remain silent, even if they have differing opinions or innovative ideas. This phenomenon is even more pronounced in team dynamics where everyone is looking for validation and a sense of belonging.

Often in past meetings, I took the lead, offering solutions and guiding discussions. However, whenever I shared an idea or suggestion, it seemed like the team would quickly agree, not offering many ideas of their own. Maybe they thought, "He's the boss, so his way is the best way."

But this time, I wanted things to be different. I wanted to hear from them, to understand their challenges, and to let them come up with solutions together.

As the meeting began, I explained its purpose and then chose to remain mostly silent, only speaking when necessary. The room was quiet at first. Everyone seemed to be waiting for someone else to speak.

But slowly, one by one, team members began to discuss.

  • The atmosphere shifted from a regular meeting to a vibrant brainstorming session.

  • The room was filled with energy, and ideas bounced back and forth.

  • Post-it notes covered the walls.

  • Diagrams were drawn.

By the end of it, we had a list of actionable steps and new tools to try out.

This experience was a powerful lesson for me. It reminded me that leadership isn't always about having all the answers or being the loudest voice in the room.

Sometimes, it's about stepping back and letting others shine. It's about creating an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered.

In the end, it's about building a better team.
